Gerland Ellot states this is one of only three of the fifteen recorded covers where the stamp has not been excised and replaced, and is the only one from Queensland where the stamp was not excised and replaced.

Australian States: South Australia, Post Office, Adelaide, bold strike of lion and crown double circle handstamp on 1839 folded letter to Oatlands, Van Diemensland with "10d" rating, letter from South Australia pioneer Robert Gouger datelined "16 July, 1839" with content including the increasing value of his Adelaide town acres…I have 17 town acres, and two of them for which I gave originally about £18 - are now worth £3,000…The society is excellent, the Governor is an accomplished scholar and a gentlemen…Pray excuse my hurry to save the post; cover with central tear at top, Very Fine, letter carried by the ship "Emma" and is one of the earliest known South Australia covers to Tasmania, ex-John Bell.Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.
Robert Gouger is a famous originator of South Australia who was appointed the first Colonial Secretary in 1835 and then arrived at Holdfast Bay in December of 1836.

In 1864 the Danube and Black Sea Railway was founded and extended a distance of 46 miles between Kustendje, on the Black Sea, and Czernawoda on the Danube, thus forming a link between the mail boats of the DSNC at Czernawoda and the mail boats of the Austrian Lloyd Company at Kustendje. This local post officially begun its activity in 1867 following a Convention concluded between DBSR and Kustendje Harbor Company (enterprise working in Constanta harbor) regarding the transport of mail on DBSR railway, when the company put in use the stamp of 20 paras.
