Ionian Islands, 1843-45 Zante & Corfu Covers, fancy scroll over oval date stamps on two covers; 1843 Zante to Corfu with origin and receiving postmark on reverse, manuscript "4" rating, and 1845 Corfu large type oval date stamp (Vlastos type 10) on folded letter sheet to Patrapo with "30" rate and partial receiving backstamp, Very Fine.

Ionian Islands, 1845 Soldier's Letter - Corfu to Nottingham, England, fresh folded letter sheet with "From No. 1017 John McKay Corporal 19 Regiment" endorsement at top, bold "Corfu, Nov 23, 45" origin cds and manuscript "1" rating, red London entry cds and arrival date stamp on reverse, Very Fine and choice, ex-J. Firebrace & G. Sattin.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

The 19th Regiment proceeded aboard the troop ship Resistence to Corfu in January 1843. The regiment stayed for three year and left for the West Indies in December 1845 shortly after this letter was posted.

Ionian Islands, 1847 (June 7) Zante to Venice, Italy, folded letter with blue fancy scroll Zante date stamp (Vlastos type 20) and matching boxed "Franca" handstamp, endorsed "via Trieste Col Vapore Austriaco" at bottom left, with manuscript "3" and "6" ratings, red "D" handstamp and reverse with "Venezia, 15 Giu" arrival postmark, Very Fine.

Scott No. 1.
