A WONDERFUL & EXTREMELY RARE NEVER HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1952 10Y ON 50S SURCHARGE ISSUE WITH ASTERISK OMITTED - A GREAT RYUKYUS RARITY.

During the "emergency" 3rd printing of 400 sheets, two pieces of type were missing from the surcharge form at the beginning of the press run resulting in this "*" being omitted as well as the "Kai" character being omitted in position 71. These errors where quickly fixed and it is believed that no more then 11 sheets with these errors were printed and that no more than 8 to 10 examples have survived. In is interesting to note that when fixing this surcharge error, the top "Kai Tei" characters where lowered 1.8mm resulting in a shorter surcharge variety.
