Feb 3, manuscript postmark with "Pd 10" & additional manuscript "P(ost) Paid " upper left on green cover with black Patriotic Design 11 Star Flag and Verse with horizontal "J. W. Randolph Richm'd" (Dietz F11-16m Vs. 2) imprint, addressed to Lovington PO, Va., missing backflap & repair in top right corner, Very Fine appearance.

Confederacy, Coosawhatchie (S.C.) Feb 13, manuscript postmark with "Due 5" on soldier's due cover to Col. A. P Calhoun, Pendleton, Anderson Dist., S.C., manuscript soldier's endorsement "Sent by Capt. J. C. Calhoun, 2nd Battalion Cav. S.C.V.", Very Fine.
Estimate    $100 - 150.

Captain John C. Calhoun enlisted on May 6, 1861 (by the Executive of S.C.), in Pickens District. His Battalion was consolidated into the 4th Rutledge Rifles in May 1862. In May 1862 he reenlisted for the duration of the war as Captain Co. C. He served throughout the war but was sickly for most of 1864 and returned to duty Nov. 24, 1864. He was listed as a deserter on Feb. 14, 1864 but was sick and sent to the General Hospital in Richmond and the hospital in Huguenot Springs, Va.

Confederacy, Cowpen Branch (S.C.) May 30th, with manuscript "Paid 10" on turned cover to Mrs. Lucie E. Nandin, DALTON, Ga., inside use franked with 1864 10¢ blue (Archer & Daly) tied by Dalton, Ga cds and addressed to Anderson C.H., So. Ca., pencil manuscript "10 Due", flap detached but accompanies cover, otherwise Very Fine, Cover is the listing cover for the CSA Catalog and the only known stampless example from Cowpen Branch, S.C.

Confederacy, Crow Creek, S.C., manuscript postmark with "Paid 10 cnts" rating on cover to Pickens C.H., S.C., Very Fine, an unlisted town and the only known.

The U.S. Postal Service closed the Crow Creek post office in 1858 with the Confederate Postal service re-establishing the office in 1862.

Confederacy, Dorn's Gold Mine, S.C., Nov. 1, 1864, bold and complete 37mm cds (minor discoloration) with matching "Paid 10" handstamp on Prisoner of War Cover to "Sgt S.S. Smith, 2nd Prison Camp, Chase, Ohio", additional manuscript notation "Care of Capt. Wm. Hatch, Asst. Agt. for Exchange, Richmond Va.", postmarked "Old Point Comfort Va. Nov. 18" double circle and matching "Due 6" in circle, F.-V.F., a very rare and popular town with only three reported (Stets & Teal 6), one of the great South Carolina Postmark Rarities, signed Kimbrough.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Evidence of a CSA stamp applied at upper right, which may have been applied later by a collector as the Confederate States of America postage was already paid as indicated by the "Paid 10" handstamp (somewhat obscured the the double circle postmark).
