Canada, 1851, Prince Albert, 6d slate violet, on laid paper, imperforate, pretty, large-margined single tied by target cancel on a folded address leaf to New York, N.Y.; red Montreal split-ring c.d.s., Oct 6 1852, along with matching "CANADA" in framed arc, and straightline "PAID", the latter also tying the stamp; small hole on reverse from wax seal removal; couple minor vertical file folds not affecting stamp, Very Fine, ex-Caspary, Geldert, Nyman.

Canada, 1851, 12d vermilion, trial color proof from composite "scar" die on India paper, an extraordinary example; wonderfully fresh with brilliant color and enormous margins including partial right & bottom sheet margins, Extremely Fine and choice. Unitrade No. 3TC C$12,500 ($8,750).
Scott No. 3 var.    Estimate $4,000 - 6,000.

This proof was made in combination with a 10¢ "Consort, Scott #16, side-by-side on a single small sheet of India paper. The "scar" refers to a flaw in the "CE" of "CENT" caused by a small dent in what was then an 8-year-old.
