Morgan, Supt., full discernible strike of fancy Eagle & Shield postmark in blue tying 1857, 3¢ dull red (26) on cover to Red River Landing, La.; cover with contemporary manuscript scribbling partially removed and some light toning, Fine.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

THE ONLY KNOWN STRIKE OF THIS EXTREMELY RARE FANCY MILITARY POSTMARK IN BLUE ON FULL COVER.

The Kentucky Military Institute was founded in 1845 and chartered by the State of Kentucky on January 20, 1847. Apparently the Frankfort post office was used until about 1850 and from 1850 to 1852 the post office was the Military Institute.
