Lot 3089

Airmail, 1961, 15¢ Statue of Liberty, imperforate vertically, o.g., never hinged, center stamp with crease from fold over from which this error was created (not affecting the error pair), Very Fine; with 1977 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. C63b    $15,000 for pair.

AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1961 15¢ STATUE OF LIBERTY AIRMAIL IMPERFORATE VERTICALLY AND THE UNIQUE TRANSITIONAL STRIP OF FIVE.

Only two pairs, one strip of 3 and this strip of 5 are thought to exist. The pairs and the strip of 3 all show freak perforations, thus making this the only sound example of this rare variety with this strip being the unique transitional strip of five.
