Radial of Montpelier, Vt (S-E GE-R 31) fancy blue floral design ties 1861 3¢ rose on cover to New Hampshire with Montpelier, Vt. double circle postmark at left, some cover staining on reverse which extends onto front & couple of hinge remnants, F.-V.F. and attractive, ex-E. Haub.

Rutland & Troy R.R. Clerk's Fancy Cancel, wonderful strike of "Morrison Tr 34 N" clerk's fancy canceller ties 3¢ Bank Note on cover with light strike of Agent cds alongside, Very Fine and rare, ex-E. Haub.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

"Morrison" was the mail clerk on Train 34 and "N" designates North. This is the only known railroad mail clerk using his name as a cancelling device.

Shield of Bridgeport, Ct (S-E PS-S 1) nice strike on 1869 3¢ (natural s.e.) and just tied by Bridgeport, Ct. cds on cover with fancy violet corner card of the "Union Metallic Cartridge Co.", tiny cover reduction at right, Very Fine, ex-E. Haub.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The Union Metallic Cartridge Company was an early manufacturer of cartridge ammunition for small arms. The company was founded in 1867 during the most rapid evolution of cartridge design to date. Following merger with Remington Arms in 1912, the company manufacturing complex in Bridgeport, Connecticut became a major arms supplier during World War I.

Skull & Crossbones in Coffin of Pittsburgh, Pa., strong complete strike with partial cds alongside, canceling on 1¢ Liberty postal card (UX3) addressed to Scranton, Pa., datelined "Pittsburgh, Nov 25, 1873" on reverse, a Very Fine and choice strike, an extremely rare short-lived fancy cancellation, known used only from November 25-29 of 1873.
