1860, 90¢ blue, deep rich color, neat magenta manuscript cancel, well centered with bright color, tiny corner crease at bottom right and of no significance, Extremely Fine appearance; with clear 2009 P.F. certificate and missing P.F. cert. (#436061).

A GORGEOUS STAMP AND ONE OF THE MOST ATTRACTIVE 1860 90¢ BLUE HIGH VALUE.

Used examples of Scott 39 are considerably scarcer than unused copies, as they were valid for a short period of time and were only used to pay high postage rates. For many years this magenta cancel was thought to have been used in Shanghai, China, however evidence now points to usage from New York City. The magenta wavy-line pen cancel on this stamp is also seen on the reconstructed multiple of five pictured in the Ishikawa book and sale catalogue.
