1873, 10¢ brown, C.B.N.C. printing, silk fiber paper, o.g., lightly hinged, beautifully centered with immense margins, rich color, sharp proof-like impression on bright fresh paper, P.S.E. cert. mentions, "perf repairs at top and reperforated at bottom", none of which is mentioned on the P.F. certs, nor was it mentioned in the Siegel sale of the David Wingate Collection, Extremely Fine appearance, ex-Wingate; with 1984, 1997 P.F. & 2024 P.S.E. certificates.

A REMARKABLE EXAMPLE OF THE 1873 10¢ CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE ISSUE.

The distinctiveness of this variety lies in the minuscule dark silk fibers dispersed throughout the paper, discernible only under close scrutiny. It is a characteristic shared with various other Continental printings, including the 1875 Issue, but notably absent in the National and American printings.

1873, 12¢ blackish violet, C.B.N.C. printing, beautifully centered, intense color and Post Office freshness, cancelled by attractive red New York Foreign Mail, an Extremely Fine gem, a gorgeous stamp of the utmost beauty, ex-Emerson; with 2012 P.F. certificate.

1873, 30¢ gray black, C.B.N.C. printing, beautifully centered, lovely color on fresh paper, light cancel in purple, P.S.E. cert states, "reperforated at left", we disagree with this opinion, Extremely Fine and choice, a lovely stamp particularly with this scarce purple cancel; with 2024 P.S.E. certificate.

1873, 90¢ rose carmine, C.B.N.C. printing, o.g., lightly hinged, perfect centering with large even margins, vibrant color, sharp impression and Post Office freshness, a Superb gem; with 1982, 1998 P.F. & 2009 P.S.E. certificates, last Graded (XF-Superb 95, SMQ $7,500).

THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST MINT ORIGINAL GUM EXAMPLES OF THE 1873 90¢ CONTINENTAL BANK NOTE IN EXISTENCE - A STAMP OF UNMATCHED BEAUTY.

We do not understand why this gem with perfect centering, gum, color and impression did not receive the grade of Superb 98. We have reviewed the four stamps which are graded higher, one graded 95J, two graded 98 and one 98J. The 98J example has disturbed gum and this example is on a par with the two graded 98 examples.
