Wells Fargo & Co., 1862-64, 10¢ brown, right margins single with ample to mostly large margins, tied by blue Wells, Fargo & Co., Express, Silver City, Utah oval handstamp on 3¢ pink entire to Folsom, Cal., black company frank at top; large portion of entire added at right, F.-V.F. appearance; with 1976 P.F. certificate.

Wells Fargo & Co., 1862-64, 25¢ blue, margins large to just shaving frameline at top right, tied by light blue "Wells, Fargo & Co., Virginia City, N.T., Oct 20" oval date stamp on 1861, 3¢ pink entire (U35) to San Francisco, with second strike canceling indicia, bold blue "B.F.H. & Co., Oct 19, 1863" company cds at center (B.H. Hastings & Co., bankers) used in lieu of express frank, pencil "Oct 21" receiving docketing at left; right edge including small portion of indicia expertly restored, Very Fine.

The absence of the Wells Fargo frank on this entire is in accordance with a little known agreement between Wells Fargo and other banking institutions allowing them to transmit, via Wells Fargo's express lines, envelopes displaying the bank's handstamp in lieu of the Wells Fargo frank. B.H. Hastings briefly had a field office in Virginia City, therefore complying with this agreement.

Virginia City, N.T. oval date stamp on 3¢ Nesbitt, and 25¢ blue on 1861 3¢ pink with similar cancel, Very Fine appearance, an interesting reference group.
