Ecuador, 1866, 1r olive yellow on quadrille, horizontal pair, tied by neat blue "Guayaquil, Franca, Ago 4, 73" cds on folded letter to Lima, Peru, in combination with France 1870, 30c brown, horizontal pair (46) tied (through perfs) by blue anchor dotted lozenge handstamp, matching "Guayaquil, Paq. Fr. F No. 2, Aout 4, 73" octagon date stamp alongside, red "P.P." boxed handstamp and reverse with "Lima, Ago 8" receiving cds; Ecuador pair with corner crease at bottom right not mention on certificate, Very Fine, ex-Caspary, T. Roberts & Loviband; with 1967 R.P.S.L. certificate.

A SPECTACULAR ECUADORIAN-FRENCH COMBINATION FRANKING - ONE OF THE FEW ECUADOR-FRANCE MIXED FRANKINGS KNOWN IN PRIVATE HANDS.

Carried by the vessel "Ville de St. Nazaire", this letter is one of twelve known complete covers from this service in private hands and certainly one of the finest examples.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r light bistre, vertical strip of five and strip of four, full margins with top stamp in strip four a bit in at top, in combination with 1865, ½r blue (2) on judicial wrapper to Quito, canceled and tied together by neat "Latacunga" provisional box postmarks, red crayon "18½oz" weight notation and "13 de Mayo de 1866" docketing on reverse, Very Fine, this Latacunga pre-adhesive postmark was used during the first half of 1865, fewer than ten recorded usages of this provisional handstamp used as a cancelling device.

Ecuador, 1865, 1r buff yellow, left margin vertical pair, showing portion of marginal rule line at left, margins ample to clear, tied by bold sharp "Franca" in dotted lozenge handstamp of Guayaquil on 1873 folded letter to New York City paying the 2r rate up to ¼ oz., with red "New York, Paid All, Oct 19" entry cds on reverse, with letter datelined "Guayaquil, Set 23, 1873", Very Fine, one of the latest, if not the latest usage of the first issue, as the second issue had already been introduced in late August of 1873.

Ecuador, Quito., bold straight line first type postmark on October 6th, 1769 folded letter from the President of the Audience of Quito addressed to the Royal Treasury in Popayan (Colombia); cover with some light cleaning, Very Fine; with 2001 Moorhouse certificate.

THE EARLIEST DATED PRESTAMP MARK OF THIS FIRST QUITO POSTMARK - ONE OF ONLY THREE KNOWN EXAMPLES IN BLACK.

This letter from the President of the Audience of Quito, directed to an official of the Royal Treasury in Popayan, may have gone on the second northbound dispatch to Quito to Cartagena under the Spanish Crown's newly established mail service, the "Royal Renta de Correos". The manuscript cross at the top of the letter was placed there to indicate "safe carriage in the sight of God".

Ecuador, 1835 Guayaquil to Salem, Massachusetts, folded letter datelined "Guayaquil May 14th, 1835" and endorsed "via Panama" at lower right, reverse with bold "Forwarded, S.S. Sweeter, U.S. Consul, Guayaquil" oval handstamp, front with circular "Forwarded By, I.B. Feraud, Panama" handstamp, entered to U.S. mails with red "Phila., Sep 7" octagon date stamp, matching Philadelphia Full Rigged Ship in octagon handstamp and manuscript "20¾" rate, Very Fine and choice.

AN EXTREMELY RARE ECUADOR & PANAMA FORWARDER COVER TO THE UNITED STATES BEARING THE FANCY PHILADELPHIA FULL RIGGED SHIP MARITIME HANDSTAMP.

This cover was sent from the sailing ship "William & Henry" at Guayaquil to the ship's owner based in Salem. This cover reached Philadelphia after nearly four months in transit.

Provisional Surcharge, with Airmail 1928, 3s on 60c Provisional Surcharge + Airmail Registration 1928, 1s on 20c Provisional Surcharge (C5, CF1) on registered airmail cover to Barranquilla, in combination with 1928, 20c bistre brown (273), all tied by purple "Guayaquil, SCADTA, 28 Ago, 1928" cds's, registry etiquette handstamp and receiving postmark on front, Very Fine.

AN EXTREMELY RARE FIRST DAY OF ISSUE COVER EXAMPLE OF THE 1929 50C ON 10C "CTS." PROVISIONAL SURCHARGE ERROR ON A FLIGHT COVER.

This cover was sent by F.E. Parraga on this flight bearing the rare "50 Cts. 50" error airmail from the sheet of 100 sold to him by the SCADTA Agency in Guayaquil. Of the 80 covers sent, many are reported to have been destroyed due to the ravages of the tropics.
