(Nevada) Centreville, Cal. June 29th, black manuscript postmark (Williams NEV-230) with matching "Paid 6" rate on buff cover to Ohio; original enclosure datelined "June 27th 1852 Centreville Ne Co. Cal." contents read, in part, "…Since I last wrote I have been compelled to quit my claim in this place in consequence for the want of water, on the 10 I left this place it being some 5 miles south from Nevada City and went some 10 miles North of Ne to a place called Cherochee Corell…The Governor in his last estimated the Pop at 30,000 it is estimated that thare will be 60,000 who will cross the Plains. People are apt to make wild estimates on Cal prosperity…Eli Knapp,"; general light wear, F.-V.F., a rare California manuscript postmark.

The Centreville Post Office was established in 1851 and renamed Grass Valley in 1852.

Hutchings' California Envelope showing Expressman on Horseback Delivering "Letters From Home" To News-Starved Miners; backflap toned spots, Very Fine and rare, one of ten recorded examples of this illustrated miner's cover.

PAID 3 Aug 28, fine integral rate handstamp (NEV-1190) with "10" overstruck on the "3" on buff cover addressed to "Oregon, Astoria" but somehow missent to Boston with red cds Oct 3 and two-line black handstamp "Missent to Boston, Mass"; minor edge wear, some discoloration spots on cover front, otherwise Very Fine.

April 18 (1851), manuscript postmark on 1851 folded cover with matching manuscript "40" addressed to Boonsboro, Ark., interesting miner's letter which reads in part, "…at this time about 12 miles from this place we just found digging Saturday last and yesterday we washed out $83.25…", Very Fine, a nice early 40¢ rate cover.

(Nevada) Nevada City Cal., Aug 10, 1860 (addressed to Hon Abram Lincoln), black cds on 1853-55 10¢ Nesbitt entire (U16) addressed to "Hon Abram Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois", manuscript sender's directive "Overland" at left, appears to be docketed "needs no answer" at left in Mary Lincoln's hand; some edge wear, F.-V.F., ex-Kutz, pictured in "Gold Fever" by Kutz on pg. 356.

This cover pre-dates Lincoln's successful election as President of the United States later in 1860.

May 3, black cds (PLA-1380) on "FREE" printed envelope addressed to Post Master, Washington, Vermont, enclosed letter datelined "May 3, 1858" from D Currier to "Brother Lib" which discusses the Lecompton Compromise, I tell you that the Lecompton is dead…The president will never be able to put whiting enough onto that black hearted constitution…I am glad to see so many Democrats stand up on the side of freedom. These are what I call Republican Democrats., Very Fine and unusual.
