(Placer) Ophirville, Cal., 29 Aug, partially struck postmark (PLA-2840) with manuscript date on cover to Richmond, Indiana, with large "10" rate handstamp, Miners' Coat of Arms, illustrated Barber & Baker design showing Miner and Bear Hold Up Cross with Various Miner Implements; some cover faults including small defect affecting imprint at bottom, Very Fine appearance, a rare design with twelve examples recorded by Kutz.

(Placer) Rattlesnake (Cal), Apr 27, blue manuscript postmark (PLA-2990) with pen cancel on 1853-55 6¢ Nesbitt entire (U14) with additional manuscript "Paid in money 4c" to make up the 10¢ rate to Schenedtady, N.Y., slight abrasion affects postmark, most of bottom back flap torn off, F.-V.F., a rare postmark and usage showing a portion of the rate paid in cash.
