Great Britain, 1840, Mulready Envelope, 1d black & 2d blue with matched "Poulton Penny Post" markings, 1d (slight soiling and corner faults) to London Bridge, canceled with "Poulton Penny Post" plus three red Maltese Cross Cancels, Preston and London backstamps, 2d (stereo A197, some soiling and corner restored) with matching origin and address, F.-V.F. appearance, a very rare matched pair; with 1979 R.P.S.L. certificates.

Great Britain, 1840, Mulready Advertising Letter Sheet, 1d black, group of two with stereo numbers A5 and A15, both used, the first with red Maltese cross from London to Penryn, Cornwall, the second canceled with Black Maltese cross and used within London, both with overall advertising on back headed Post Office Covers; sold to the public at 11d. per dozen, 4d under the government price by William Gilling, 193, Strand, London, opposite St. Clement's Church, where parties wishing insertion may receive full particular, printed in blue (S.G. Spec. 12d, e), one roughly opened and toned, generally Fine the second cover is very fine, a very scarce pair in any condition.

Great Britain, 1840, Mulready Advertising Letter Sheet, 1d black, with Stereo 244, canceled with black Maltese Cross cancel, from London to Norfolk, back stamped Wells Norfolk Ap 24, 1841 cds, back of letter sheet headed Society: For the Extinction of the Slave Trade, and for the Civilization of Africa (S.G. Spec. MA 480), further explaining the state of Africa at the time, a plan to counteract slavery and the expense; toning on the back with some light creasing, Fine overall, a very rare example of this advertisement, very few have survived.

Abolitionism in the United Kingdom was the movement in the late 18th and 19th centuries to end the practice of slavery, whether formal or informal, in the United Kingdom, the British Empire and the world, including ending the Atlantic slave trade. It was part of a wider abolitionism movement in Western Europe and the Americas. It spanned over a century and involved a wide range of activists, politicians, religious groups and former slaves. The trade of slaves was made illegal throughout the British Empire by 1833 with Nigeria and Bahrain being the last British territories to abolish slavery.

Hayes K" postmark below, all with backs headed Jell's General & Commercial Envelope, all three are different (S.G. Spec. MA 17g, i & j), some light tone spots and creasing, still Very Fine, a very scare trio.
