Annual Fair of the American Institute, Exhibition at the Crystal Palace, three different admission tickets to annual fairs of the American Institute of New York; 1856 28th Annual Fair ticket (signed George F. Nesbitt, Chairman Manger), 1857 29th Fair ticket (signed by industrialist Charles A. Whitney, Chair Manager) and 1858 30th Annual ticket (during which the Crystal Palace burned to the ground, signed by Rev. F.W. Geissenhainer Jr.); some minor edge wear and mounting adhesion on first pass, Very Fine, the last ticket illustrated in Bomar Postal Markings and Postal History of United States Expositions (page 8).

Lot 867

Association for the Exhibition of the Industry of all Nations, group of four documents relating to the exhibition; includes unused exhibitor "Application For Space" form, an acceptance exhibitor form letter and request for description of exhibit (for Descriptive Catalogue), a December 10, 1853 printed announcement from President T. Sedgewick regarding prolonging the exhibition, and a December 31st, 1853 hand-written letter signed by President Theodore Segdewick to the local committee for the South Western States, Very Fine.

Barnum's American Museum, New York, P.T. Barnum, Proprietor, red shield cameo on backflap on cover to Marion, Conn., franked with 1851, 3¢ dull red (11) tied by "New York, Feb 21" cds, accompanied by a Brady's carte-de-visite of P.T. Barnum, reverse with 2¢ Bankcheck revenue (R6c) canceled by "Barnum's Museum, May 31, 1865" cds and signed "P.T. Barnum 1865"; cover with some light wear and small sealed backflap tears slightly affecting cameo, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Phineas Taylor Barnum became president of the Crystal Palace exhibition in 1854.

Construction of Central Park, 13½x9'' circa 1857 photograph showing some of the earliest construction of Central Park with the Crystal Palace in the background at right (pencil notation and arrow above), reverse notation with "5th or 6th Ave" location, Very Fine, this is one of two known photographs, the other resides in the Columbia University special collections.

Crystal Palace Die and Plate Proofs, three items; includes Baldwin, Adams & Company plate proof on card of a $5 Nassau Bank currency note featuring a Crystal Palace view (red "Property of American Bank Note Co." handstamp on reverse), India on card die sunk proof (154x100mm) of the same proof engraving by Baldwin & Adams, and an additional India on card die proof (133x85mm) of similar view by Danforth, Walker & Co., Very Fine.

Ex-President Pierce, Concord, N.H., dated July 1st, 1861"; cover missing backflap and sealed tear through frank, Fine.
