1893, 1¢-$5 Columbians complete, large die proofs, die sunk on card, Complete Set, die sunk on approximately 200 x 145mm cards with full die sinkage, gorgeous colors, each with die number and imprint in die sinkage area, ten with some hinge thins at edge of cards (away from the die sunk area), lovely Extremely Fine appearance; all with 2010 P.F. certificate.

A SCARCE SET OF LARGE DIE PROOFS FOR THE 1893 COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION ISSUE.

This is one of the freshest sets we have encountered and is particularly desirable fully die sunk, with no hybrids or printed directly on card.

1893, 4¢ Columbian, blue color error, o.g., rich true blue error shade, wide margins and far better centering than normally encountered, small filled hinged thin, F.-V.F. appearance; with 1976 P.F. certificate.

AN ATTRACTIVE MINT EXAMPLE OF THE ICONIC 4¢ COLUMBIAN ERROR OF COLOR.

The 4¢ Columbian color error was a result of using the blue ink intended for the 1¢ Columbian value. At least two sheets where printed coming from plates D17 and D18 (the plate numbers from these sheets still exist) with very few examples, both mint and used, surviving from these printings.

1893, 4¢ Columbian, blue color error, o.g., lightly hinged, bright fresh color of this distinctive shade, minor diagonal crease at top right (appears to be a natural gum crease), P.F. cert. mentions "thin spots", however the original gum is intact and we see no evidence of thinning, lovely Fine appearance; with 1991 P.F. certificate.
