ONE OF FOUR RECORDED EXAMPLES OF GADSBY'S FREE TRADE AND CORN LAW REPEAL PROPAGANDA STATE A2 DESIGN.
The Anti-Corn Law League advocated the repeal of the 1842 Corn Law Act which had imposed an increased scale of duties on the importation of corn. John Gadsby of Manchester issued a series of Free Trade envelopes and a number of gummed wafers to promote the cause and The League also issued an envelope with an orange embossed circular seal on the reverse.
