Lot 1007    

Airmail, 1930 Charles Lindbergh, Basil Rowe and Igor Sikorsky signed flight cover. Legal size registered cover franked with Canal Zone 3¢ & 10¢ overprint issues plus 20¢ on 2¢ airmail surcharge issue, addressed to A.L. Wright in care of Igor Sikorsky in New York, with purple "Cristobal To Miami, F.A.M. 5, May 1, 1930" flight cachet and sign at left by pilot Lindbergh, co-pilot Rowe and Sikorsky, Vice President of Sikorsky Aviation who built the plane, the Sikorsky Plane 142-M, which was used for this flight, with Cristobal and New York backstamps, Very Fine, a wonderful and extremely rare signed flight cover.

Airmail, 1933, 50¢ "Chicago" Zeppelin. Tied on cacheted flight cover by "Akron Ohio, Oct 28, 1933" postmark, with additional purple flight cachet, Very Fine and choice.

Lot 1009    

Airmail, 1935 Explorer II Stratosphere Balloon Flight. Cachet cover carried by the National Geographic Society A.A.C. originating in Rapid City July 12th franked with two 6¢ air winged globe issues, redirected to White Lake, South Dakota - The July 12th flight was abandoned and this mail was stored in safe keeping while the balloon was being rebuilt for its November journey. It was then carried in the balloon 'Explorer 2' taking off from Stratobowl November 11 reaching an altitude of 72,395ft, landing in White Lake 9 hours 12 minutes later. - further 12¢ postage was applied for its eventual journey to Canal Zone, 36¢ Canal Zone postage dues in Corozal, cover faults including edge wear and tears, Fine, ex Langhoff.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

Airmail, 1937 Amelia Earhart commemoration card. 1¢ postal card postmarked from Oakland Airport Station on March 17th 1937, with the cachet in red "AE takes off from Oakland Municipal Airport in an attempt to circumnavigate the globe at the Equator" (no photo).

Airmail, 1946 First Flight to Dhahran, F.A.M. 27. Round trip journey from Brooklyn to Dhahran Saudi Arabia return 2nd July 1946, 20¢ & 50¢ airmails making the 70¢ rate, postmarked in Saudi Arabia and returned on the TWA flight back to Washington, D.C. & signed by Postmaster, flight cachet on reverse, Very Fine, ex Langhoff (no photo).

Lot 1012    

Airmail, 1960 Highest Manned Balloon Flight. Cover franked with 1959 7¢ airmail issue tied by Alamagordo, N. Mexico postmark, with flight cachet and signed by pilot Captain John Kittinger on 16th August 1960, reached an altitude of 103,000ft and he then jumped out and fell for 8 ½ minutes hitting a speed of 614mph, Very Fine, ex Langhoff.

Airmail, 1962 B-52 Non-Stop Jet Flight. 7¢ airmail entire with half way around the world flight cachet, flying missile platform jet #60-040 from Okinawa to Washington on to Spain, setting off January 10th 1962 arriving 12th January making 11 new records, accompanied by collateral material, Very Fine, only a handful of covers exist.

Lot 1014    

Airmail, 1962 Balloon Flight Mission Accomplished. Cover flown on the highest successful manned balloon flight 'ground to air to ground' pioneering in the 1960s - two men lifted to 87,000ft over New Mexico led by Captain Kittinger as part of project 'Stargazer'. An extraordinary cover sent out on 13th December under the guidance of the AFCRL from Holloman Air Force Base. This particular cover is also signed by William White, scientist who was the 'balloon-borne' astronomer. All this is accompanied by collateral material. This flight concluded successfully - unlike Kittinger's preceding flight where he bailed out, Very Fine, ex Langhoff.

Military Airmail, 1944-45, 6¢ Transport, "R.F." overprint. Tied by Batiment de Ligne Richelieu, 8-12, 44 dotted octagon date stamp with second strike alongside, on small cover to New Brunswick, N.J., return address on reverse and censor at left, stamp slightly overlapping cover at top, Very Fine.
