China 10¢ dark green (Scott #91) and 1888 Japan 10s brown orange (#79) tied to 1898 cover to U.S.; China issue tied by large blue double circle cancel (probably Chefoo) and Japan issue tied by red-brown NINSEN I.J.P.O. cancel; postmarks on back are Yokohama, San Francisco and Wooster, Ohio; original letter from Tungchow enclosed, fresh and F.-V.F.

China - U.S. Offices, 1898 Tengchowfoo negative cancel. On unfortunate cover as the stamps (probably China and Japan issues!) were removed, we run this cover despite its condition (although 9 cancellations are present showing routing, etc.) because of the extreme rarity of the Tengchowfoo negative cancel, listed and pictured in Changs book on cancellations - where his photographed example is also missing some stamps, V.G.

China - U.S. Offices, 1899 Russian Offices in China. 1k orange (Scott #1) horiz. pair and 3k carmine (Scott #3) horiz. strip of 5 and single all tied to 1900 cover to U. S. by multiple strikes violet double circle cancel in Russian; additional Shanghai I.J.P.O.; 4 different postmarks on back; with original letter from Chefoo, fresh and F.-V.F., extremely scarce.

To U.S. franked with strip of 3 and 2 singles of Hong Kong 2¢ rose (Scott #36) and 2 singles Chefoo ½¢ green; Hong Kong stamps tied by May 15 Shanghai cancels and Chefoo stamps tied by neat Local Post cancel, additional postmarks include Kobe, Japan, Chefoo and probably Shanghai Local Posts, San Francisco transit, Carthage, Ohio arrival, cover wear, otherwise Fine, an extremely rare combination.

China - U.S. Offices, 1860's-1890's Mateer U.S. and Europe correspondence. Over 440 Covers (many with original letters) that make up the remainder of the Mateer Family Correspondence, all within the U.S. (about 400 from 1860's to about 1900) or Europe (43); many Missionary oriented, interesting items include a letter written on the way from Japan and then posted in Pacific Grove, Ca and a letter (1894) written on Canadian Pacific Railway Co. R.M.S. "Empress of Japan" stationery "600 miles" from Yokohama, Japan, most letters are not checked for content of correspondence, Fine, a interesting lot (no photo).
