Lot 1866    

Hawaii, 1838 missionary letter. A folded letter datelined "Waialua (Oahu), Sabbath Morning, September 9, 1838" written by Edwin Locke to Fitzwilliam, N.H., letter carried by ship Captain to Boston where it was placed in the mails after a 6 month voyage, postmarked red Boston & magenta manuscript "12" rate, lengthy religious letter which has been fully transcribed with some interesting contents, "While you, I trust, continue to worship Jehovah there and there to celebrate the dying love of Christ, your unworthy brother is permitted to stand on Hawaii distant shores surmounted indeed by tens of thousands of sinful and desperate men, yet enjoying exalted privileges, and permitted to see multitudes of once heathen souls turning from this wickedness and professing giving of themselves to the Savior and to be his forever.", Very Fine, a rare early letter.

Lot 1867    

Hawaii, 1850 folded letter from Anvers, Belgium to Honolulu, Sandwich Islands. Privately carried to New York where it entered the mails with red "New - York, Nov 26, 40cts Paid" cds, an additional "40" rate in pencil at left, cover foxing and small tear at top, Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Hawaii, (1850-51) New Bedford, Ms. to Maui, Sandwich Islands. Ca. 1850-51 cover with "New Bedford, Ms., Feb 19" cds with matching "Paid" straight line and "6" rate, endorsed "Ship Liverpool, Capt Swift" at top manuscript "10" collect rate in pencil for Hawaiian postage, small cover tear at right, F.-V.F.

Lot 1869    

Hawaii, 1860 incoming cover from Germany. Folded letter with boxed Bremen handstamp to Honolulu, sent via Aachen, Boston & San Francisco, markings include red "Aachen/Paid 25cts" & red "Boston/30/Br Pkt" accounting marking, included is a printed billhead from same company in Honolulu used in 1864, Very Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Lot 1870    

Hawaii, 1860's incoming covers from United States. Lot of two covers to Honolulu each franked with 1861 3¢ rose from New York & one 1861 3¢ entire postmarked Oakland, Cal. with red crayon 7¢ rate marking addressed to Rev. S. Bishop, Lahainaluna (Maui) Sandwich Islands (entire with corner defect), F.-V.F.

Lot 1871    

Hawaii, 1870 forwarded incoming cover to Honolulu. U.S. 1870, 10¢ brown entire with "Forwarded, Williams Balnchard & Co., San Francisco" oval handstamp and endorsed "Per J.B. Ford" at top left, entered the mails in Honolulu and canceled by Honolulu target, Very Fine, a rare forwarder usage from San Francisco.

Hawaii, 1881 Hannover, Germany to Honolulu. Folded letter franked with Germany 1880 50pf vert strip of three + 20pf + 10pf tied by bold "Hannover, 2.28.81" cds's, endorsed "via Queenstown, New York & San Francisco" at top left, New York transit cds, small tone spots and file fold, F.-V.F.

Hawaii, 1888-99 incoming registered covers. Lot of one Postal Letter Card from Belgium with additional franking (1888), one registered cover from France (1893), one registered postal entire from Canada with additional franking (1899), all to Honolulu with magenta Honolulu arrival postmark, Fine.

Lot 1874    

Hawaii, 1892 incoming cover from Gotha, Germany to Hilo, Hawaii. Franked with 10pf red, vertical pair tied by "Gotha, 27.12.92" cds's, letter forwarded to New Castle, Australia with "Hilo, Hawaii, Jun 30, 1893" cds, various transit backstamps including purple "P.O. Department, Mar 1896, Foreign Division" handstamp, returned to sender with "Gotha, 26.3.96" receiver, cover soiling and edge wear, Fine, an interesting cover returned back to sender after over three years in transit.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Lot 1875    

Hawaii, United States incoming covers. One binder full of approximately 142 covers & cards all from the US to Hawaii with various different frankings & postmarks, all are 19th century covers from about 1875 onwards, many are from the "Bishop" correspondence, some with corner cards, mixed condition, worth inspection (no photo).
Estimate    $1,500 - 2,000.
