1861, 1¢ blue. Natural straight edge at left, tied in combination with 1861, 3¢ rose + 12¢ black, two singles on green Magnus patriotic cover showing Liberty, Flag & Shield design, addressed to Vienna, Austria from the famous "Angell" correspondence and forwarded twice, adhesives all tied by large Boston "Paid" grids, red "Boston Br. Pkt., 7 Paid, Apr 22" cds, red boxed "Aachen Franco" date stamp, various manuscript rates and appropriate backstamps, Extremely Fine and choice, a stunning exhibition item paying the correct 28¢ rate by Prussian Closed Mail, fewer the six Magnus Patriotic covers are in the Angell correspondence, ex-Matthies, Haas.

1861, 1¢ blue. Fresh bright colors, on on small clean 1862 cover to Paris, France, all neatly tied by a pair of "Slatersville, R.I." cds's, red "Boston/Paid/12" exchange and red French entry cds's, Paris receiving backstamp, stamps with bright vivid colors, 10¢ with small tear at right, still Extremely Fine, a choice three color franking; with 2003 P.F. certificate.

Lot 66    

1861, 3¢ rose. Horizontal pair (minor tone spots), tied by target cancels and "Washington D.C., Apr 24, 62" cds one a very rare multicolored Magnus "Panorama of Washington" patriotic cover addressed to Danby, Vt., included is matching multicolored Magnus enclosure depicting large portrait of Washington, 27 small views of various Washington D.C. sites and a large overhead view of the Capitol and foreground, cover slightly reduced at right and unnoticeable tear at bottom right, Very Fine, an attractive and very rare used example of this "Crown Jewel" of Magnus patriotic covers of which only a handful are known.

1861, 3¢ rose. Tied by fancy geometric and "New York, Oct 18" duplex postmark on reverse of cover to Scotia, N.Y., front with "Gallant Charge of the Hawkins Zouves at Roanoke Island" multicolored allover Magnus patriotic design, Extremely Fine; with 2003 P.S.E. certificate.

Lot 68    

1861, 3¢ rose. Tied by Ornate Negative Letter "D" monogram fancy cancel (Skinner-Eno #LS-D10 but this is a much more complete strike) on cover to New Berne, N.C., matching "High Point, N.C., Jul 18" postmark, a Superb gem, Eli Denny is listed as being the postmaster of High Point in 1867.

1861, 3¢ rose. Well centered single tied by central strike of "Alexandria, Va." cds on cover to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., with multicolored Magnus dual panel patriotic design depicting Detroit View and Indian Allegory, 1862 docketing at right, Extremely Fine; with 2005 P.F. certificate.

(natural s.e. at right) tied by "Alexandria, Va., Feb 13" cds on cover to Claremount, N.Y., with multicolored Magnus allover battle scene patriotic design with "Movement of our Army" caption below, cover addressed on both front and reverse, barest cover reduction at right slightly into upper right margin of stamp, otherwise Extremely Fine; with 1981 P.F. certificate.

Franked on reverse of cover (portion of stamp under backflap) with stunning allover patriotic design of Fortress Monroe, Va. in blue showing birds-eye view of fort and surrounding harbor, addressed to Boston, Mass and stamp tied by "Old Point Comfort, Va., Dec 8" cds, Very Fine and choice, a wonderful exhibition item.

Well centered, cancelled by central target with "Phila., Pa., Apr 18" postmark alongside on cover with lovely illustrated design for the "Great Central Fair for the Sanitary Commission" in violet, "Philadelphia. Office 1323 Chestnut St." imprint at left, reverse with printed shipping instructions to the various fair chairmans, Extremely Fine and choice, a select example of this popular Sanitary Fair design, Pictured in A. Kantor's Sanitary Fairs; with 1995 P.S.E. certificate.
