Uruguay, 1859, 60c lilac. cover front to Salto franked with with gorgeous large margins single tied by red "Montevideo 4 Julio 1859" oval postmark, plus folded letter to Tacuarimbo franked with four margin single tied by matching red oval postmark date "14 Julio 1859", folded letter with small tear at right, Very Fine, a rare pair which are both cancelled earlier than the earliest recorded usages in Lee.

Uruguay, 1859, 80c orange. Type 3, ample to large margins, tied by fancy "Scarab" cancel on 1859 folded letter postmarked with two strikes of "Salto Renta de Correos" cds to Montevideo, F.-V.F., a wonderful item for the specialist.

The plate for the 80c value was made after the 180c value, by erasing the "1". Nearly all of the "1" is present on the stamp proving that the 180c was printed before the 80c.
