1863, 2¢ black. Tied by cork and matching "Little Rock, Ark., Aug 5" cds on "Bureau of Refugees, Freedom and Abandoned Lands" corner card cover with printed matter endorsement, to Princeton, Ark; light toning, F.-V.F., a very rare bureau imprint.

1863, 2¢ black. Well centered with vibrant deep color, tied by bold blue waffle grid on buff cover with matching "Chicago City, OB" cds, Extremely Fine, a gorgeous cover & a rare postmark with was in use from Oct. 7-19, Ex-Haas, Rourke, Myerson.

1863, 2¢ black + three 10¢ green. Tied on an 1865 Prussian Closed Mail cover (4¢ overpaid!) from Pennsylvania via New York to Germany, 2¢ defective, F.-V.F.

1863, 2¢ black + 10¢ green. Pair of each tied on 1864 cover from New York to England, canceller appears to be a fancy negative cancel, one 10¢ with minor rounded corner, Very Fine, colorful and attractive.

1863, 2¢ black. Well centered, tied by blue target on locally addressed violet surface-colored cover, matching "Baltimore, Md., Sep 13, 65" cds alongside, Extremely Fine, colored covers such as this were rarely used in the 1860's.

Lot 565    

1863, 2¢ black, diagonal bisect, used as part of 3¢ rate. Two covers from correspondence, with matching 2¢ bisect halves, both grid canceled on covers to Saxton, Pa. with indistinct origin postmarks, one with "Due 1" in circle handstamp applied over postmark; cover and stamp defects, otherwise Fine, an extremely rare matching pair; with 1990 P.F. certificates.

1863, 2¢ black, horizontal bisect, used as part of 35¢ rate. In pair with additional 2¢ single and three 10¢ (which overlap and partly obscure the bisect), all tied by pen cancels on an orange 1866 cover to Switzerland, with three backstamps, some minor stamp & cover faults, part of back missing, F.-V.F., a scarce and striking usage.

1862, 5¢ red brown. In combination with 1861 10¢ green + 30¢ orange on 1863 legal size cover (refolded) to France, tied by neat strikes of large Boston "Paid" cancels & large red boxed "P.D." handstamp with red New York credit cds & French entry double circle at left, adhesives with bright fresh colors, couple of minor blunt perfs, Very Fine, an most attractive cover, the 5¢ red brown is one of the most difficult stamps of the issue to find on cover, ex-Rohloff.

1863, 5¢ brown, verticial pair and single. Tied by blue "Savannah, Ga., Jul 24" cds's on cover to Horneburg, Germany, red "New York, Brem Pkt., Paid 12, Jul 28" exchange cds and receiving backstamp; horizontal crease in single 5¢ stamp, otherwise Very Fine.
