Clyde. C. & T. R.R., 6, Jan 17 (Cleveland & Toledo R.R.). Station agent's cds with integral station number, tying crayon canceled 1857, 3¢ dull red (natural s.e. at left) on cover to Warrenville, O., with additional strike alongside and a clear full strike on reverse; cover edge wear and reduced at right, F.-V.F., a very rare station agent postmark.

Jarrett & Palmer's Special Fast Trans-Continental Train, New York, June 1, 1876, 12:10 A.M. Clear strike of special duplex postmark (Towle SP-3) tying 1873, 3¢ green on legal size cover to San Francisco, Cal., additional endorsement "With Jarrett & Palmer Lighting Train" at top; cover file fold and small sealed tear at top left, still Very Fine, an extremely rare railroad postmark used only for this special transcontinental trip, less than 4 examples of this postmark are known; with 1997 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 158    Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.

This special theatrical train, which left New York on June 1, 1876 at 12:40 a.m., set the original transcontinental speed record of 84 hours for the 3313 mile trip of San Francisco.

Fran. & Lompoc R.P.O. - S.R postmark (rail & steam river, unlisted), 1910 S.L.O. (San Luis Obispo) & Los Olivos duplex postmark, 1900 Seattle & Union and 1917 Tol. & St. Louis cds and duplex on illustrated farm implement ad cover; couple with a few minor faults, otherwise Very Fine.

Red two-line handstamp (Towle 114B-7, rarity IX) on 1839 folded letter from Holland Patent to Buffalo, N.Y., manuscript "18½" rate at right and light pencil notation "Utica" under handstamp; light toning and fold splitting at bottom, a Very Fine strike, of this Utica route agent handstamp.

Ry., Mentor" blue oval agent date stamp (unlisted), red 1870's unlisted "S.P. & S. Ry." (St. Paul & Sioux City) straight line postmark on 1¢ postal card, blue unlisted 1875 "T.W. & W. Ry., Huntington, Ind." oval date stamp (Toledo Walbash & Western), unlisted 1908 purple "Union Pacific R.R." straight line handstamp on post card; couple covers slightly reduced, Very Fine, an attractive group.
