(H.B. = Humboldt Bay) with manuscript date "Nov 12, '56", large blue oval postmark (Williams HUM-4870) on brown cover to Yuba City, Cal., matching blue oval handstamp with "Paid" inside and manuscript "3" at right, tears in flap of little consequence, Very Fine and scarce.

Vacaville, Cal., Aug 30, 1855 (Solano). Manuscript postmark on cover to La Porte, Ind., with "Paid 10" rate, two lengthy four page enclosures regarding cattle, building a railroad from Sac City to Negroes Bar on the American river, the mails, prospects at Indian Diggings, etc.; cover soiling and wear, Fine.

Vernon, California (Sutter). Manuscript postmark (Williams SUT-900) with manuscript "40" rate, which has been crossed out & Postmaster's free frank applied on light brown stampless cover to New York, cover send to San Francisco where their "Sep 1" cds was applied indicating it was to be carried on the second trip of the Steamship Panama, some wear & tear affecting the free frank, otherwise Very Fine, a rare manuscript postmark & usage, Vernon, was the first city north of Sacramento.
