Special Delivery, 1907-24 covers. Lot of seven covers with various frankings & usages such as 1916 cover from Canada franked with 2c Canadian War Stamp + United States 10¢ Special Delivery, three covers with attractive illustrated advertising, etc., couple minor flaws, Very Fine, worth careful inspection.

Lot 1575    

Postage Due, 1894, 2¢ vermilion. Two singles, blue crayon precancels, used on hotel corner card cover with "Rochester N.Y. Nov. 13 2AM 94" receiving datestamp on back, 1893 2¢ Columbian (231) with cork cancel and "? Mont. 6PM 6 Nov 1894" circular datestamp, slightly reduced at top and small opening tear, still Fine, a rare use of 2¢ Vermilion 1894 Unwatermarked Bureau Issue -- the 1¢ J29 earliest documented use on cover is Nov. 14, 1894, which probably makes this 2¢ Nov. 10 date very early, if not the earliest, use of the 2¢ J30.

Parcel Post, 1913, 1¢ carmine, "Shanghai, China" Darragh type III inverted overprint in blue. Natural s.e.'s at left and bottom, in combination with 1912, 1¢ green on fresh local printed reply cover to the International Correspondence Schools, tied by two strikes of "U.S. Postal Agency, Shanghai, China, R.D." oval handstamps, Extremely Fine, a lovely usage of the rare inverted Darragh overprint on a 1¢ Parcel Post issues, a great on cover rarity, ex Drucker; with 1978 P.F. certificate.

Service, Shanghai, China, Aug 30, 1922" duplex postmark on locally addressed picture postcard showing "H.E. Tang Shao Yi Entering the Motor Car Just After Landing, Shanghai", Very Fine and choice, a rare combination usage of both regular and local surcharge issues; with 2006 P.S.E. certificate.

Perfect strike of cds on fresh 1861, 10¢ yellow green on buff entire to San Francisco, Cal., canceled by negative "U.S." cork cancel and "Per United States Mail" straight line endorsement handstamp at upper left, magenta "China and Japan, Steam Service" oval handstamp and "San Francisco, Paid All, Apr 24" entry cds, reverse with "Olyphant & Co., Shanghai, 20 Mar, 1869" forwarders handstamp; cover opened at sides for display, Extremely Fine and choice, the finest recorded 10¢ entire usage from the U.S. Postal Agency in Shanghai; with 2001 P.F. certificate.

Duplex postmark tying 1890, 10¢ green + 1894, 1¢ blue + 2¢ carmine on registered cover to Roxbury, Mass., in combination with China, Wuhu Local Post 1¢ brown + 5¢ orange tied by "Wuhu Local Post, 22 Mar, 95" cds, second strike on reverse with Shanghai duplex and other transit and receiving postmarks, with original enclosure with matching Wuhu local post date stamp at top, sent by the postmaster of the post regarding the sending of complete set stamps; U.S. stamps with small edge faults, Very Fine, a very rare combination usage of the Wuhu local post issues & United States postage with letter from the Wuhu local postmaster.
