(Retaliatory Rate) Nantes, France to New Orleans, Louisiana. 1848 folded letter with "Nantes, 25 Juin 48" origin cds and red "Paid, Ju 27 1848" British transit cds, red "34" cents due handstamp & matching "Boston Ms, Ship, Jul 12" receiving cds, the 34¢ due represents the 24¢ packet rate plus 10¢ inland for half ounce over 300 miles, Liverpool transit date stamp & manuscript "18" decimes paid on the reverse which paid the transit fees to the U.S. border (8 decimes for French internal postage, and 10 decimes foreign postage - owed GB.), Very Fine, per the Cunard Line steamer Niagara departing Liverpool 1-Jul & arriving Boston 12-Jul.
