Gilbert & Ellice Islands, Christmas Island, 1936, 10c Coconut Plantation issue, block of four. Tied through perfs by central purple "Christmas Island, Local Postage, Sep 30, 1936" cds on American Museum of Natural History corner card cover to West, Nyack, N.Y., endorsed "Pacific Expedition 1936, Chris Olsen", additionally franked with U.S. 3¢ S.B. Anthony + 25¢ Transpacific tied by "Hilo, Hawaii, Dec 29, 1936" duplex cancel, receiving backstamp; couple small nicks affecting left stamps in block, otherwise Very Fine, a very usual multiple usage of the Christmas Island Coconut Plantation local.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Sender Chris Olsen was one of the artists and principle members of the 1936-37 Second Templeton Crocker American Museum Expedition to the Pacific Ocean.
