1801-48 Incoming Stampless Ship Covers. Lot of five folded covers including 1848 cover from Ireland to New York via Boston with manuscript 2/ paid & bold 12 cents due (5 cents over 300 miles + 2 cents ship); 1805 cover from London to Boston via New York with manuscript 4/ paid at 2/ per sheet, plus 34 cents due (17 cents x 2); 1832 folded letter from G.B. - Lowell, Mass. via New York with manuscript 39½ cents due (18¾ cents x 2 + 2 cents ship); 1840 folded letter from G.B. - Boston via New York with manuscript 58¼ cents due (18? cents due x 3 + 2 cents ship; 1801 folded letter from France - Philadelphia with manuscript 102 cents due (25 cents x 4 + 2 cents ship), F.-V.F.

Lot 104    

1815 Bremen, Germany to Baltimore, Maryland (War Rate). 1815 folded letter sheet privately carried to London, red "Post Paid, Fe 2, London" cds with a small crown above the month with manuscript "1/1" rate mark just above, red "New York, May 11" cds with matching "Ship" handstamp and manuscript "27½" rate representing 2¢ incoming ship plus 17¢ zone rate for between 150-300 miles for a single sheet of paper plus 50% increase or 8½¢, Very Fine, a scarce example of the war rate on incoming maritime mail.

1833-64 Incoming Transatlantic Covers. A nice lot of 29 stampless incoming transatlantics with numerous different markings & postmarks, origins are mainly Germany, France & Great Britain, however one is noted from India, Smyrna, Manila, Beirut & one from Holland, mixed condition, please inspect.

Lot of 23 stampless covers from Mexico, Cuba, Peru, Brazil, Panama to the United States during the 1850' & 60's, most all with "Steamship/10" integral rate handstamp, however also noted is a large "10" rate handstamp & straight line "Steam" of New Orleans, double circle postmark of "New Orleans" with straight line "Ship" & "5" rate, "Steamship/20" integral rate handstamp, blue "Baltimore" cds with straight line "Ship" & "5" rate, arced "Ship 6", "New-York Ship Letter 5" cds, "N.Y. Steamship 10" cds, etc., two folded letters from Mexico with oval "Vera Cruz" postmark, two folded letter (1823 & 1831) are from Cuba to Philadelphia with different type red "Charleston. S.C." postmarks with red straight line "Ship" & manuscript "27" rate, mixed condition, worth inspection.

With forwarding to Sacramento City and San Francisco, Cal. reverse with "St.Petersburg, 8 Mar, 1851" origin boxed date stamp, "Aachen Bahnhof 28 3" railroad cds, partial red oval "Forwarded By De Rham, Iselin & Moore New York" handstamp and "Gilpin's Exchange Reading Room and Foreign Letter Office N - York" forwarder handstamp, red and "5" handstamps, circular "P" handstamp & red "Collect" adjacent, red "Sacramento City, Cal., Jul 7" cds, manuscript "via Liverpool" crossed through and "El Dorado" substituted in the lower left corner; some ink erosion in address panel, F.-V.F.
