1855-76 French Incoming Covers to the United States. Lot of 18 incoming covers with classic frankings, postmarks & destinations, several are to New York, included is one cover from the French Colonies of Senegal franked with the Colonies 40c Eagle block of 4 tied by scarce blue boxed grid of dots with matching blue Goree double circle postmark to Maine (sadly an additional 40c has been replaced), mixed condition, worth inspection.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Lot 112    

From U.S.S. Brooklyn, Aspinwall U.S.C. (Aspinwall, Colombia). Manuscript endorsement on cover (opened for display) to Philadelphia franked with 1883, 2¢ red brown tied by New York "2" killer postmark, "T" in circle handstamp with "U.S. Charge To Collect" & ".8 Cents" handstamps, reverse with 1884, 2¢ Postage Due strip of four tied by Philadelphia receiving postmark, mailed sometime between 1884-87, rate from Colombia was 5 centavos per 15 grams letter rate plus 5 centavos surcharge which when the U.S. 2¢ stamp is subtracted leaves 8¢, Very Fine, a very interesting incoming naval cover.

1828 Lynchburg, Va. to France. Folded letter with "Lynchg. Va. Jun 9" cds & matching handstamp "Paid", red manuscript "25" cents paid (over 400 miles, single sheet to N.Y.) on the right side, red "9 Juil 1828" cds, red framed "Pays D'outremer Par Le Havre" handstamp on top, and manuscript "13" decimes due in the middle, "12 Juil 1828" receiving cds on the reverse, Very Fine.

1832-56 Transatlantic Mail to France. 12 covers from various points in the U.S. to France, 5 dated between 1832 and 1840 (double forwarder), remainder from 1852 through 1856. Nice variety of markings and rates, F.-V.F. overall.

Folded letter with bright red "Forwarded From Harndens Package Express & Foreign Letter Office No 8 Court St. Boston" upper left corner, various transits, and "20" decimes due manuscript with handstamp "Paid At Liverpool" and tombstone "N PAID 16SP16 1841", privately carried to G.B. by Harnden's, Very Fine, per the Cunard Line steamer "Columbia", departing Boston 1-Sep, arriving Liverpool 14-Sep-1841.

Prices current (Circular) with "New Orleans, Sep 3" origin cds, red "Paid 4" (New Orleans) handstamp & red "2" (New York) credit handstamp to G.B., reverse with "Granville, 29 Sept, 52" receiving cds on the reverse, Very Fine, probably per Ocean Line steamer Washington departing New York 11-Sep-1852 & arriving Southampton 25-Sep-1852, a very scarce usage.
