Mexico, 1856, 2r yellow green. Plate 1, without overprints, horizontal strip of 4, without gum, printed on slightly thicker paper than the issued stamps, huge margins showing portions of the stamps at foot to in at upper right, some creasing, F.-V.F. appearance, no examples of the 2r without overprint from plate I have ever been recorded, this may be in all probability a plate proof.

Mexico, 1856, 2r yellow green, value tablet repeated in right margin, Guadalajara. Oval town cancel, huge margins to touching at bottom, small thins, Very Fine appearance.

Mexico, 1856, 2r yellow green, Isla del Carmen. Light Carmen cancel (Schatzkes 585), rich color, F.-V.F., one of the scarcest Isla de Carmen consignments; with 2004 P.F. certificate.

Lot 1613    

Mexico, 1856, 2r yellow green, Mexico. Tied by Mexico cds on September 2, 1857 folded letter arriving in Veracruz two days later, endorsed "p Extraordinario de Pagerche" express service, Very Fine, a choice express usage from Mexico City to Veracruz at the very rare 2r rate, ex Gutierrez, O. Rodriguez.
Scott No. 3    Estimate $300 - 400.

Three cities, Mexico City, Puebla and Veracruz, had express services between them. Cost was double rate. Very few covers have survived, most with 4r rate.

Mexico, 1856, 2r yellow green, Puebla. (1st plate) mostly large margins to just shaving design at bottom left, tied by clear strike of "Acatlan" boxed handstamp on folded letter sheet to Puebla, Very Fine, a choice usage from Acatlan.

Mexico, 1856, 2r yellow green, Veracruz. Well margins single tied by light Vera Cruz circular handstamp (Schatzkes 1749) on fresh folded letter sheet to Perote, additionally canceled by dotted lozenge handstamp applied at Jalapa in transit, Very Fine, a very scarce cancellation combination.

Mexico, 1856, 2r blue green, Morelia. Rich color, tied by sharp bold "Colima, Julio, 26, 1857" oval date stamp (Schatzkes 929) on cover to Guadalajara, insignificant age spot at bottom, Very Fine and choice, a striking usage of the scarce 2r blue green.
