Mexico, 1874, 5c brown violet, Matamoros. Cut square tied on what appears to be a large part wrapper by "Franco En Matamoros, E.U.M., 25 Ago, 85" oval date stamp, addressed to Monterey, Very Fine, a very rare usage of an illegal cut out.

Cons 2378, overlapping on 1874 official cover front, tied by manuscript "Franco en V(illa) A(lvarez) Simatlan" with portion of "Villa Alvarez" handstamp below; front rough at sides, Fine and rare, Villa Alvarez or Zimatlan is such a small town that it is not even mentioned by Schimmer.
