Fort Lyon Col, Oct 17, superbly struck cds on circa 1863 cover to Michigan franked with 1861 3¢ rose tied by matching target cancel, minor cover wear & bit of flap torn away, F.-V.F.

Lot 100    

Fort Lyon Col. Jun 25, black cds on 1870 cover addressed to "St. John, Sumit [sic] Co., via Georgetown, Colorado", franked with 1869 3¢ ultramarine with matching concentric target cancel, illegible cds of Jun 27 which is in all likelihood of Georgetown, Col., despite the fact that no known postmarks are recorded at this time, slightly reduced at right, Very Fine.

Lot 101    

Fort Lyon Colorado. Dec 7 1873, blue double oval (the only known example) on registered cover to Fort Garland, manuscript canceled 3¢ and 15¢ Banknotes pay postage and registry fee, respectively, reduced at left, Very Fine and rare, a lovely cover.

Lot 102    

Fort Sedgwick Jun 12 1867, black cds on military cover to Massachusetts franked with 1861 3¢ rose with indistinct cancel, light pencil docketing at left indicates the sender was from "Co. B, 4th US Infantry", one flap replaced, Very Fine and scarce.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Fort Sedgwick was established to protect the inhabitants of old Julesburgh against Indian raids. A hardship post, many of its buildings were nothing more than sod huts.

Fort Sedgwick Col. Feb 6, black cds on circa 1868 cover to Pennsylvania franked with 1867 3¢ rose (small corner defect), F.-V.F. and scarce, In 1869, the post office reverted back to Julesburgh.

Fountain Col, Feb 2, manuscript postmark on 1864 3¢ Postal entire to Vermont, slight reduction at right, Very Fine and rare, This is the only territorial cover known from Fountain, a small Quaker farming hamlet.

Lot 105    

Ft. Lupton, undated manuscript postmark on 1861 3¢ Postal entire to Laporte C.T., docketed 1862, couple of tears, F.-V.F. and rare, illustrated in Jarrett's Colorado book.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

This early fur trading post was established in 1836 on the south side of the South Platte River. It obtained a post office in January 1861 while still part of Nebraska Territory, and became part of Colorado Territory the next month.
