1st Regiment U.S. National Guard, red allover allegorical design with "Excelsior" in ribbon above, on cover franked with 1857, 3¢ dull red tied by "Old Point Comfort, Va., Aug 6" cds, "Due 3" in circle handstamp as the 3¢ stamp had been demonetized by August of 1861; bottom right of stamp lapped around edge of cover, still Very Fine.

Abraham Lincoln, mourning portrait design with crossed black border on cover to Two Taverns, Pa., "Newbern, N.C., Jun 9, 1865" cds and matching "Due 3" handstamp, with original enclosure listing the names of the 165th Pa. Militia at Fortress Monroe with notation I wrote these names so that I will know which of them is killed or wounded. Them on the other side are the 9 months men. Those up above are the three years men they get 100$ bounty; cover tears and toning, Fine. Milgram No. AL-365.
