Straight line postmark with matching "X" rate handstamp on 1847 folded letter to Kanawha Court House, Va., forwarded to Washington D.C. as Member of Congress with manuscript "Free" frank rating and partial "Kanawha C.H., Va., Dec 16" cds, enclosure datelined "Puebla, July 14th, 1847"; cover file fold and some minor faint toning, F.-V.F.

G.S.L.C., Cal. Sep. 17/50 (Utah Territory). Manuscript postmark with matching "Paid 40" rate on folded letter to St. Louis, Mo., lengthy 3-page letter written by James Ferguson, sheriff of Salt Lake City, with interesting content: "I am just now liberated from the charge of a vagabond doctor whom I had arrested…", included is a lengthy article on Sheriff Ferguson detailing his colorful life, cover with wear along edges at top & bottom, Fine, a very rare postmark used when Utah was an unorganized territory.

Manuscript postmark on folded letter to Wisconsin, matching manuscript canceling four margin 1851, 3¢ dull red, 1856 year date docketing, long datelined letter regarding hardship of the day; cover with slight fly-specking, otherwise Very Fine, a very rare usage from this unlisted territorial Post Office.
