Lot 1422    

Harriott's Broadway Post Office. Cor. Canal St. New-York. Red oval handstamp clearly struck on reverse of buff cover to California, postmarked black New York/40 integral rate cds, corner wear and minor water staining, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $100 - 150.

This is the first handstamp used by James C. Harriott's Broadway Post Office in 1849. A very rare usage to the post office for transmission to California.

City Despatch, PM. Clear strike of red circular handstamp on 1845 folded letter locally addressed cover; archival tape staining from reinforced split file fold, Fine, a very rare local delivery company with only 13 usages from this elusive post recorded.
