Confederacy, Civilian Flag of Truce. Blue "Norfolk, Va. Apr. 25" cds and matching "Paid 5c" in circle, to Charleston, S.C., "Exd" censor and "Postage Paid " marking in pencil; cover slightly reduced at the top, F.-V.F.

Confederacy, Oelrichs & Co., New York. Oval handstamp on folded commercial letter datelined "Bremen, May 29, 1861" to Richmond, Va., carried through-the-lines two days before the June 1, 1861 suspending of mail service between the North and South and prior to the Blockade, F.-V.F.

Oval forwarder handstamp on folded letter to Richmond, Va., franked with U.S. 1857, 3¢ dull red tied by "New York, Mar 17" cds, enclosure datelined "Bremen, May 1, 1861", entered the U.S. mails on May 17, two weeks before mail service between the North and South was suspended, Very Fine.

Confederacy, 1861 Stampless Letter From England Via Nashville To Richmond, Va. With blue Nashville, Ten., Jun 26, 1861 postmark with straight line "Paid" & pencil manuscript "20" rate; probably carried by private express to Nashville where it entered the mails, a fascinating letter regarding Tobacco mentions" In estimating the future of the Tobacco Market, it will be well to look at our stock and to remember that Maryland and Kentucky are free to export perhaps Tennessee also, and only in the prospect of a long protracted struggle…", and goes on to mention the Blockage on several different occasions including "attempts to elude the Blockade", Very Fine, a scarce usage after suspension of mails from England.

Originating in Charleston, S.C. outbound to New York where "5" in circle rate handstamp was applied, through the Bahamas with "Bahamas JY 3, 1864" backstamp, a piece of the cover is missing at the upper right (repaired) where a Bahamas stamp was removed, otherwise Fine; with 2004 C.S.A. certificate.
