Adams & Co., Los Angeles, Feb 17. Clear red oval date stamp with matching "PAID" in oval handstamp on brown cover to Santa Barbara, franked with manuscript canceled 1851, 3¢ dull red as required from 1854; cover side flaps refolded in and missing most of top flap, otherwise Very Fine, a scarce Adams location as Los Angeles was a small town then and had little to do with the gold rush.
