Confederacy, (Colleges) College Temple, M.P. Kellogg A.M., President & Proprietor., Newnan, Ga. All over illustrated shade design in gray on cover to Hon. A.H. Stephens, Vice President of C.S.A. in Richmond, postmarked "Newnan, Ga. Jun. 5" (1861) cds with straight line "Paid" handstamp and "5" handstamp re-rated to "10" handstamp, cover manufacture's imprint on reverse, "N. Orr & Co., Manufacturers of Illuminated Envelopes", small bit of flap torn off, Extremely Fine and attractive.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

Docketed on reverse that College President Kellogg "tenders to the Confederate Government the whole income of the College either as a gift on loan; reserving only a sufficient sum to defray the expenses of his family and the college economically administrated.".

Confederacy, (Colleges) Medical College of Georgia at Augusta. Illustrated corner card showing the College Building on neat cover to A.H. Stephens in Richmond, postmarked "Augusta, Ga./Jul. 30" (1861) double circle postmark with small size "Paid 10" handstamp, docketing on reverse indicates sender is soliciting an appointment as a surgeon for his bother in the Albany Guards, part of flap torn off, Extremely Fine and choice, a lovely & rare College cover which is not listed in Dietz.

The building on this corner card was used as an emergency hospital for Confederate soldiers from the battlefields of Jonesboro, Griffin and Atlanta (it burned in 1865).
