Patriotic design (Dietz F10-3) in red, white and blue on small cover franked with 1861 5¢ green (defective) tied by "Richmond, Va./Oct. 21" (1861) cds to North Fork, N.C., cover endorsed "via Raleigh", included is original enclosure from a soldier to his sweetheart at home, "I am afraid I shall never behold your smiling face again, but if I never do, I shall die with a fond remembrance of you in my heart.", F.-V.F.

Red, white and blue stenciled design (Dietz F10-20) on cover to Richmond, Va., franked with uncanceled 1862, 5¢ blue, left margin pair (small faults) and manuscript "Churchview, Va., Oct 28th, 1862" postmark at top, some contemporary notations; cover slightly reduced at left, F.-V.F., a scarce stencil design.
