Confederacy, Big Shanty/March 28. Two-line Georgia postmark (Dietz IA) between wavy-line borders on cover with "Paid 5" woodcut straightline handstamp, cover homemade from ledgersheet, some corner wear, Very Fine, an excellent strike of this rare Fancy Postmark, illustrated in Dietz.

Negative postmark (Unlisted in Dietz) in outer ring with "March" date at center tying four margin 1861 5¢ green on rebacked cover front with matching woodcut "Paid" handstamp, addressed to Bowdon, Ga., Very Fine, a rare & unique Fancy Postmark from the Confederacy, ex-Kohn; with 1990 C.S.A. certificate.

Confederacy, Buena Vista, Ga. red cds on forwarded cover originating from Virginia with blue "Petersburg"cds & due "10" handstamp, sent to Buena Vista and forwarded to Plains of Dura, blue "10" rate crossed out with manuscript "Pd 10" added and handstamped "Paid 10" in red, soldier's endorsement in top left corner, Very Fine, ex-Judd.

Double circle postmark on cover with "Paid" handstamp & manuscript "5" rate, addressed to Hamburg, S.C. with attractive blue embossed cameo corner card of "Carrollton Masonic Institute", reduced at left & couple tears including one affecting corner card, Fine.

Cassville & Cass County were named after General Lewis Cass, Secretary of War from Michigan under President Andrew Jackson.

Confederacy, Chickasawhatchee, Ga./18 July (1861). Balloon type cds on cover with straight line "Paid" & "5" in circle rate to A.H. Stephens in Montgomery, Ala., cover forwarded with Montgomery cds & manuscript "For'd 10" to Richmond, bit of flap missing, included is second folded cover (1864) franked with 1863-64 10¢ blue (in at right) with manuscript cancel & tied by "Chickasawhatchee, Dec. 29" manuscript postmark, folded letter with fancy printed letterhead of "Woodruff & Co.'s Carriage Repository" with ornate shield advertising Coaches, Buggies, Hacks, Wagons, Harness, Whips, etc. letter with some interesting contents, "You can have the lower story of My Repository at Griffin for the Government. It is a very large room. The Confederate Govt.used it for a hospital & the rent was assessed at $125 per month.", the letter closes with, "What do you think of the prospect of Raids from Sherman in S.W. Ga.?", closed scissor cut at top of lettersheet, Very Fine, an interesting pair of covers, one used in 1861 & the other in 1864, apparently the handstamp postmark must have been lost some time before 1864.

Confederacy, Clarksville, Ga./Apr. 2 (1862). Cds with matching straight line "Paid" handstamp & manuscript "5" rate on turned cover to High Shoals, Ga., the inside use is a pre-War 1859 usage from Philadelphia to Clarksville, Ga. franked with 1857 3¢ dull red tied by "Philadelphia" octagon postmark, Very Fine, a scarce turned usage of a pre-War United States & Confederate States use.
Estimate    $300 - 400.
