(Incoming) "80" West Coast Rate. Manuscript double rate 1849 cover to New York City with "New Orleans, La., Jul 10" cds and matching "Steam" straight line handstamp, with portion of original letter; 29th May the steamer from Panama is just in. Says there are thousands there in great distress & no ship to take them away. He brought 500 up to Callas about 1000 miles up the coast in hopes to find some conveyance…, mentions cholera; cover stain at right & tear at bottom left, F.-V.F., an early gold fever cover.

(Incoming) Bethany, O. Manuscript postmark on 1849 folded cover to San Francisco with matching manuscript "40" rate, the cover was advertised & forwarded to Culloma with magenta manuscript "Adv 4" and "Ford 12½" totaled for a "56½" rate, Very Fine and unusual, a rare early usage.

(Incoming) Bethany, O., March 4. 1850 manuscript postmark with matching "40" rate on cover to San Francisco, although not endorsed, this was forwarded to Colloma as is other covers from this correspondence, additional manuscript "12½"(¢) forwarding rate, Very Fine.

(Incoming) Lot of 3 Incoming Stampless "40" Rate Covers. Three covers all with manuscript postmarks & 40 rates to California, includes Pelham, N.H. to San Francisco, Lexington, Mich. to San Jose, last McDonough, N.Y. to Union Town, Humboldt Bay, with crossed out red "12½"(¢) rate handstamp, plus 4th cover from New York with manuscript "80" rate paying the double 40¢ rate to San Francisco, all with some wear, Fine, a scarce lot.

Group of 10 covers, several variations of postal markings, including four with red San Francisco cds, one having integral "80" rate for double weight, two with integral "40" and another with "40" handstamp; and six covers with black markings, including integral "40" with manuscript "Paid", 3 with handstamp "40", another with boxed "40", another forwarded with red "5" handstamp; condition mixed, mostly F-VF or better, please inspect (no photo).
