Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue, Bottom Margin Single With Archer & Daly Part Imprint. Clear to large margins, tied by "Richmond, Va, Mar 25" cds(Powell type 5g) on turned cover to Mossingford P.O., inside to Richmond Hospital, franked with manuscript canceled 1863, 10¢ blue (#12) and matching "Chula (Va.) March 20, 1865" manuscript postmark at top; cover slightly reduced at left, Very Fine.

Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue, Die A. Irregular margins, tied by "Charleston S.C. Apr. 11" cds on blue adversity cover made from hand written letter, addressed to General John Morgan in Dalton Ga. and redirected in care of General Long Street in East Tenn. struck with bold "Missent" handstamp, some corner wear, Fine, interesting and scarce usage combining two Confederate generals, an adversity usage & an auxiliary marking.

Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue, Right Margin Single. Clear to large margins, just tied on backflap of turned cover to Prattville, Ala. by brown "Opelika, Ala." circular postmark, reverse side franked with 1863, 10¢ blue (11) tied by "Prattville, Ala., Sep 5" cds, regimental addressed to Oxford, Ala., Very Fine.

Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue. Large margins including right sheet margin, tied by "Greenville, S.C." cds on turned cover addressed to "A.J. Vidal Marion, Artillery Rantowle's Station Chastn & Sav. R. R." (Charleston and Savannah Railroad - During the war, Sherman's forces completely decimated the line.) and noted in corner "To be forwarded from Post Office at Charleston S.C."; 2nd use is an 1863 10¢ blue (#12, torn) tied on back flaps with bold "Charleston, S.C." cds and is addressed to "J.F. Fisker, Charleston, S.C." thus making this an overpaid drop cover, Very Fine, a triple threat with mixed franking, overpaid drop and military/railroad address!

Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue. Huge margins, light wrinkle, tied by "Charleston, S.C./May 10, 1864" double circle postmark on blue adversity cover made from printed form, addressed to Greenville, S.C., included is great letter datelined "John's Island" contents, "A good many troops from this part of the country have been sent to Virginia & there are not over three hundred men now on the island. Fortunately the Yankees have sent most of their troops away also & one regiment of negroes are all that remain in the neighborhood, deserters who came here a day or two ago gave us the information. Gen. Wise, who was in command of this district has gone with his brigade to North Carolina.", plus lots of great content, Extremely Fine.

Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue. Lovely four margin example, tied by bold "Macon, Ga." double circle postmark on 1863 turned legal size cover to "Surgeon N.S. Crowell, Medical Director of Hospital, Charleston, S.C.", endorsed "official" at top left, inside usage franked with 1863 10¢ greenish blue (four margins) tied by "Charleston, S.C." cds to "Surgeon E.W. McCrary, General Hospital No. 2, Columbia, S.C.", forwarded from Columbia, S.C.to Martins Depot, S.C. (stamp missing), included is hand written application for leave of absence for Surgeon McCrary as he is suffering from fever and is unfit for duty, also included is printed letterhead "Headquarters, Columbia S.C., Special Orders No." & manuscript "84" granting Surgeon McCrary a two day pass, Very Fine.

Lot 3068    

Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing. Close at left to large margins, tied by violet "Pendleton, S.C." cds on backflap of cover to Aiken, S.C., docketed at left "Andrew - Ap. 13, 1865/Ans. Ap. 14, 1865", stain at top left, Very Fine and scarce.

The docketing dates the cover to mid April 1865 after the surrender of Gen. Lee's Army and before the surrender of Gen. Johnston's Army. An extremely late Confederate States usage from western South Carolina which was still under Confederate States control at this time.
