Wells Fargo & Co. Red Frank. At top center of 1855, 10¢ Nesbitt entire to Philadelphia, Pa., bold "Blood's Penny Post, Dec 4, 1860" cds with matching "Blood's Despatch, 2cts" handstamp; light cover staining at lower right, otherwise Very Fine, a scarce express and local combination usage, ex Gibson.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The second type frank came into use in June of 1856 and normally was applied to the upper left until the end of 1857. After that, it was normally applied at the top center.

Wells Fargo & Co. Red Frank. Six 1855, 10¢ Nesbitt entires with printed frank centered at top center; two with N. York, Steamship circular handstamp, one entering the mails in Boston, Mass. (edge faults at top) and in New York (1858 cds), one endorsed "Pr Overland Mail" with "Saint Louis, Mo., Jan 21, 1859" cds, another through New York addressed to J. Denver Governor of Kansas at Lecompton with original enclosure concerning, inter alia, the payment of which can only be termed a bribe to Denver for using his official capacity to secure title to lands in California, F.-V.F. overall.

Lot of seven 10¢ entires; four with black printed frank at upper left and blue Wells, Fargo & Co./New York double circle handstamps (one part paste-up), three with red printed frank entires, one with "New York" postmark to San Francisco, one with blue Wells, Fargo & Co. oval "Paid" handstamp and addressed to "U.S. Ship Independence" at Mare Island, last to Carson City N.T. with no markings (reduced at top), Fine.
