1859 Two Express Covers. Two 1859 covers from the same correspondence from Worcester, Mass., one addressed to Providence, R.I. with manuscript endorsement "Ross Express", 2nd to Putnam, Conn. with "Fuller's Express" endorsement, both with original enclosure, Very Fine and scarce.

Toby's Express. Manuscript endorsement on folded cover (missing bottom flap) addressed to "Tigerville Depot, per Opelousas Railroad" franked with manuscript cancelled 1857 3¢ dull red (perfs clipped at top), Very Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Toby's Express was one of several private expresses which operated in the mid-to-late 1850's in conjunction with the Opelousas Railroad.

Toby's Express. Incomplete strike of red straight line handstamp on cover to New York & franked with 1857 3¢ dull red tied by "New Orleans" cds, flap torn, F.-V.F., a nice example of this rare Toby's Express cover, One of several private expresses which operated in the mid-to-late 1850's in conjunction with the Opelousas Railroad.

Express Covers, 1853-1890. Group of 25 legal sized covers, Eastern & Western companies, including two "American Express Company" illustrated envelopes, with orange money package labels from Mineral Point, Wis., & La Salle, Ill., another American Express with orange Columbus, O., label; "Howard Express Co". money envelope Allentown, Pa. to Chattangooga, Tenn., 3 attempts refused, said to be scarce Reconstruction express company use; four United States Express Co.including illustrated red money envelope from Akron to West Salem, O.; and three with green lables (Cincinnati, Ohio & 2 La Salle, Ill.) all probably money envelopes; the balance are Wells, Fargo & Co. franks on post office entires, including 15¢ orange cancelled "Iowa Hill", 12¢ with New York cancel to San Francisco, several 6¢ Nesbitts and other entires with San Jose, Belmont, Pioche, Nev., Red Bluffs, Truckee, Port Costa, Placerville, Camptonville, Yreka, San Francisco, etc. mostly oval WF cancels; condition mixed on many, still worth careful evaluation (no photo).
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.
