Oval postmark (date corrected to the 18th by manuscript) (type VI) on 1837 folded cover originating from New York with red cds & manuscript "25" rate, cover forwarded from Tallahassee to Monticello with manuscript "6" rate totaled to "31", vert. file fold & small tear at top, Very Fine.

Red postmark (type VII) on 1842 folded cover to Virginia with manuscript "25" rate, couple small edge tears at bottom, letter with interesting contents describes voyage on mail packet from Charleston, S.C. bound for Cuba, with the writer debarking in Key West & then boarding a Brig to St. Marks, also describes Yellow Fever in Tallahassee, trival edge tears at bottom, Very Fine.

Hart, P.M." free frank on 1832 folded letter, 1841 Tallahassee usage, 1887 Glen St. Mary cds on 1¢ postal card and 1888 Jacksonville cds on The Florida Dispatch corner card fumigated cover, F.-V.F., interesting group.

Covers, 1850-90's. 23 stamped covers and a few cards; including 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Austria, 1851-57 3¢ issues with interesting forwarder and various integral rat cds's, Steamboat, etc., 1861, 3¢ issues including fancy "OK" and leaf postmarks, forwarder, later including usage to Russia, F.-V.F. overall.

Stampless, 1797-1849. 32 covers; the array of postmarks represented including 1797 cover to Massachusetts vis New York, 1820's red double circle date stamp, 1820-50's small type in red and black with various rates and handstamps including Ship, Steam Boat, Free & Missent, 1841 usage to Galveston, Texas with scarce "Wm. Bryan, Agent to the Texian Post Office, New Orleans" oval handstamp on reverse, later postmarks including "2" handstamp for circular rate, integral 3, 5 & 10 rate cds's, two usages to Scotland, etc., overall Very Fine.

Folded letter to Kentucky datelined Oct 24 1864 at Idaho City, long and interesting discussion of Oregon Trail happenings, mail through Salt Lake City, conditions of emigrants, town life including "theatre", Abe Lincoln & Jeff Davis, etc; file fold & bit of aging, F.-V.F.

Lot 952    

Ruby City, Idaho (Terr). Fascinating cover addressed to Capt F.B. Sprague at Fort Boise, I.T.; Sprague was the famous Indian fighter who commanded at Fort Klamath, Oregon; cover seemingly originating at "Camp at Warriors Lake" etc., receiving handstamp at Ruby City, then forwarded from Boise City to Fort Vancouver, W.T., thence to Fort Klamath "via Jacksonville" where it received transit cds; slightly reduced at right but surprisingly intact considering the routing, F.-V.F., exceedingly well traveled.
Estimate    $200 - 300.
