Neat red cds (Whittlesey #3, R A) on buff cover to Wisconsin franked with 1851 3¢ dull red vert. pair (mostly large margins) with manuscript cancel, included is interesting & lengthy letter telling of life in Oregon, "I passed through what is called French Paire, a splendid section of Country. It was or is settled by a good many Frenchmen, who have intermarried with the Natives or Squaws… I met a company of 40 Volunteers between Albany and Salem on their way to the mining country to help allay the difficulties between the Whites and Indians… I think the Indian as well as the poor Slave has been cruelly outraged and my sympathies are most on their side.", plus much more, minor corner wear, Very Fine.
