Letter landed at Londonderry with reverse bearing a Galway arrival stamp for August 23rd 1870 on reverse. Atlantic Transit of 9 days; stamp nick and cover edge restoration, Very Fine appearance.

Reverse bears "NEW YORK PAID ALL BR TRANSIT / JAN / 25" departure and the La Tremblade arrival for February 7th. Prepaid the 15 cent NGU closed mail rate of January 1868 using 1869, 2¢ brown + 3¢ ultramarine + 10¢ yellowish orange slightly overlapping. The bag was dropped off at Southampton and routed via Ostend and sorted on May 3rd at the Verviers, Belgium exchange office for onward routing by rail 200 miles N.E. to Quakenbruck. Atlantic Transit 11 days; reinforced fold separations, otherwise Very Fine; with 1989 P.F. certificate.
