Confederacy, 1861, 5¢ green. Small defects, manuscript cancelled on folded cover datelined "Camp Altamaha/April 17th, 1862" to Hogansville, Ga. struck with bold red "Southern Express Co./Savannah, Ga./Apr 20" double circle handstamp express marking & manuscript endorsed in pencil "Paid 2/- from #5" (2 bits or 25¢), Fine, A lovely rarity which is illustrated in Dietz 1929 Handbook.

The somewhat philosophical letter, tells of expecting to be mustered out of service in a week, then being told that the Confederate Conscription Act [passed just a day before this letter was written] required that all state volunteer troops be turned over to Confederate authority for three years.

Confederacy, 1861, 5¢ green. Stone 2, two four margin vertical pairs tied by Jan 29 New Orleans cds's paying quadruple rate on amber cover to Richmond, Va.; name of addressee cut out and top flap missing, otherwise Very Fine, a very rare franking.

Tied by "Goldsborough, N.C./Aug 26" cds on Civilian Flag of Truce cover to Talcott, Va.; endorsed "New Berne Fl of T., 19 Augt/62" with manuscript censor's "Ex." and "Due 5", the latter in the hand of the sender, includes original letter datelined "Clifton, Aug 2nd"; Very Fine, a rare Civilian Flag of Truce usage.

Four margins, tied by bold clear "Wilmington, N.C." town handstamp with integral "5 Paid" tying on nice cover to a doctor in Mebanesville, NC, this postmarked has been fashioned from the early Union version of the Wilmington cds with the integral rate "3 Paid", Very Fine and choice.
